Literacy Volunteers of Laredo is a volunteer-based adult reading, and English language program. We teach people how to read, and speak English using tutors that serve as mentors, and role models for adult students as they work towards achieving their educational goals. Literacy Volunteers of Laredo recruits, and trains tutors who are then matched to an adult wanting to improve their basic literacy skills, helping with reading, writing, comprehension, speaking, spelling, job preparedness, and survival skills training at no cost to the adult student. Tutoring takes place in public places, primarily libraries throughout Laredo, and Webb County.
Literacy Volunteers of Laredo offers free one-to-one tutoring in basic English literacy, and adult students can join a free ESL session. We use computer-based learning, and utilize a variety of books in our library helping our students achieve educational, and work placement goals. Students who gained reading, and English language skills became more involved in their children's educational activities.
Literacy Volunteers of Laredo has helped hundreds of non-reading adults, but there are many more that can be reached with our help. Become a Partner of Literacy by supporting the program with your volunteering of time or donations. By doing so, you can change a person's entire world.
